Frequently Asked Questions
Ketamine, a drug approved by the FDA in 1970, which has been used for over 50 years as an anesthetic with an impressive safety record. Recently researchers discovered that ketamine also stimulates neural pathways and promotes positive behavioral patterns leading to its current use as an effective treatment of depression, anxiety and PTSD
When taken in subanesthetic doses, it binds to the NMDA receptors and releases glutamate which helps create new synaptic connections between brain cells; this rapid antidepressant effect happens almost immediately while still providing long lasting relief.
Ketamine can be given while taking most medications and is expected for you to continue with your ongoing treatment. Our in house psychiatrist will review any medical history, advise on changes if needed before starting Ketamine treatment & advise about reducing / stopping psychiatric mediations following sessions – this way we know what’s best suited towards your needs.
Due to IV Ketamine being used as an off-label medication it is not yet covered by insurance providers, however we will provide all our patients with a superbill, which we encourage you share to your provider to determine whether certain parts of the treatment e.g. the psychiatric evaluation falls under your current plan.
